Storage (Lyophilized Powder Reagent Bottle Diameter)
Unreconstituted lyophilized powder: -20℃, sealed, protected from light, and with desiccant. Many brands indicate 24-month stability; for long-term peak preservation, store at -80℃. Short-term storage at 2–8℃ is acceptable but not recommended for more than one month; avoid prolonged exposure to room temperature for moisture absorption.
Reconstituted: Dissolve in sterile water/physiological saline/BAC, 2–8℃, protected from light, and use within 14–30 days (literature and supplier range 14–30 days; conservatively, 2 weeks is the most stable for activity). For aliquoting, store in small portions at -20℃, but avoid repeated freeze-thaw cycles, as a single freeze-thaw cycle in solution will distort the conformation.
Photosensitive + hygroscopic: Do not discard the desiccant in the bottle; wrap it in aluminum foil. Before opening, allow to equilibrate at room temperature for 15–20 minutes to prevent negative pressure and moisture absorption.
Precautions
Balance the solution before opening, slowly add water along the pipette wall, and avoid vortexing-the Lys/Arg positive charge in heptapeptides is dense; shear force will cause agglomeration, making the solution cloudy and unusable. Don't worry about wasting a little time on the pipette tip.
The solution should be clear and colorless. Discard any solution that is foggy, flocculent, or contains particles; do not attempt to salvage it by heating.
Low concentration adsorption: Use low-adsorption polypropylene tubes to prepare stock solutions. Glass vials will absorb peptides below a few μg/mL, which is especially dangerous for receptor binding experiments.
It is only a RUO research compound: the Russian nasal spray is a different matter. Western-purchased Selank powder labels are all "Research Use Only, not for human consumption," meaning it is not a legal drug for subcutaneous/intranasal injection. For in vivo experiments, follow IACUC/ethics guidelines; don't treat the supplier's COA as a prescription.
When purchasing, pay attention to the COA: HPLC ≥98%, MS confirmation 751.86, net peptide content (molecular weight may vary in acetate salt form), and endotoxin levels should not exceed the threshold for cell experiments.
When conducting behavioral studies (EPM, forced swimming), remember to include artificial cerebrospinal fluid or saline infusion as a control – the nasal spray procedure itself causes mild stress to mice, and early positive data may contain unexplained operational noise.
